Cummings Diesel N Auto is proudly owned and operated by Robert Cummings, whose journey in the automotive industry began at a young age. Growing up in his grandfather's shop laid the foundation for his extensive knowledge and passion for diesel mechanics. At just 15 years old, Robert and his grandfather restored a 1975 F150, a tribute to his great-grandfather who purchased the truck new. This restoration not only earned them numerous car show victories but also garnered a front-page news article, which ultimately led to Robert's employment with a local trucking company at the age of 16, marking the start of his career as a diesel technician.
Throughout his career, Robert has worked in various facets of the industry, allowing him to become a well-rounded technician and shop manager. He spent nearly three years as the Manager of Customer Experience and Tire Sales at Firestone Complete Auto Care, where he learned the essential operations of running a successful shop. Subsequently, he spent a decade at a Mack truck dealership, achieving certification as a Master Technician in engine, emissions, electrical, and transmission systems. For six of those years, he served as the shop foreman, cultivating his understanding of efficient operations—an essential mindset in the transportation industry where downtime equates to lost revenue.
After being approached by a Ford dealership, where he had previously sourced parts for his side project, Robert dedicated two years to that establishment before realizing there had to be a better way to serve customers. This revelation sparked the mission of Cummings Diesel N Auto: to elevate truck repair standards.
With nearly 20 years of industry experience, Robert has witnessed a wide range of workmanship quality. He believes that traditional dealerships often fail to inspire their technicians to take pride in their work. At Cummings Diesel N Auto, we prioritize quality over quantity by compensating our technicians on an hourly basis rather than a flat-rate system, fostering an environment that encourages outstanding craftsmanship.
